The allure of a short travel day is hard to resist. And that makes Mexico a popular vacation destination for clients from Western states, who can be relaxing on a beach just a few hours after leaving home.
“Mexico is a great, easy, close destination and offers something for everyone — singles, families or friends traveling in a group,” said Danielle Stokes of Elandra, an independent affiliate of 1000 Mile Travel Group in Pacific Palisades, California.
Even the longest nonstop flight from Los Angeles to Cancun is under six hours, and traveling from Los Angeles to Los Cabos or Riviera Nayarit can take less than three. And then there are Mexico’s beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, rich culture and warm hospitality. But perhaps the best reason to choose Mexico again and again is that its tourism product is constantly getting refreshed. Following are the latest updates travel advisors need to know.

Revisit Riviera Nayarit
Clients who have traveled to Riviera Nayarit have many reasons to return. The beach destinations between the Pacific Coast and western Sierra Madre mountains include Sayulita, Punta Mita, Nuevo Nayarit and Banderas Bay — where humpback whales arrive from December to March to give birth.
During whale-watching season, biologist-led tours provide insight into whale behaviors, and some even include opportunities to listen to their underwater songs with hydrophones.

The highly anticipated property will feature 34 four- and five-bedroom residences along with a five-bedroom presidential suite, perfect for extended stays and group travel. The property will also offer one of the region’s largest swimmable beaches, elevated dining by famed Mexican chef David Castro Hussong, a Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, environmentally focused programming and a locally inspired wellness center.
“The resort features thoughtful design that draws in the surrounding ecosystems, offering a deep connection to nature and local culture, and creating a space for guests to engage with the destination in a meaningful way,” said Guillermo Varela, the property’s general manager.
Meanwhile, new offerings at the all-inclusive, adults-only Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort and adjoining family-friendly Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort on Banderas Bay include expanded Preferred Club offerings, such as exclusive rooftop cabanas with private pools and dedicated dining. Dreams Bahia Mita now also offers the area’s only on-site zipline, with hanging bridges, zip bikes and a free-fall jump.

In the neighboring state of Jalisco, popular vacation destinations include Puerto Vallarta and Costalegre, but soccer fans won’t want to miss the chance to attend FIFA World Cup 2026 games in Guadalajara. Jalisco is welcoming several new hotels in anticipation of the world-class sporting event as part of a historic $1 billion investment, reinforcing its position as one of Mexico’s fastest-growing hospitality hubs.
“Jalisco continues to set the standard for exceptional travel in Mexico,” said Michelle Fridman, secretary of tourism for Jalisco. “With direct flights from key West Coast cities — and average travel times under four hours — travel advisors can confidently recommend Jalisco as a top-tier destination for fall and winter getaways where authenticity meets ease.”
Escape to Punta Mita
Located on a peninsula 25 miles from Puerto Vallarta International Airport, Punta Mita continues to be a favorite for clients visiting Mexico’s west coast — and even after 25 years, the five-star Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita is a shining star of the 1,500-acre luxury community.

Recent enhancements for travelers of all ages include the launch of Babies For All Seasons, a first-of-its-kind addition to the brand’s complimentary Kids For All Seasons program, along with a complete reimagining of the resort’s signature Asian-inspired Aramara restaurant and the debut of an exclusive, custom-blend private-label tequila.
“Whether clients are seeking relaxation, adventure or meaningful family time, we provide experiences that keep them coming back year after year,” O’Sullivan said.
Stokes of Elandra agrees.
“I have been to Four Seasons Punta Mita many times,” she said. “You just can’t go wrong with the service, and the resort’s location can’t be beat.”
Montage Punta Mita will complement the destination’s laid-back lifestyle with refined hospitality and bespoke amenities.

“Punta Mita continues to set the standard for Mexican coastal destinations,” said Carl Emberson, director of marketing and operations for the destination. “The arrival of Montage and Pendry further builds on this foundation, introducing two remarkable resorts that will complement the destination’s laidback lifestyle with refined hospitality and bespoke amenities.”
Celebrate Los Cabos
Clients who book a stay at the all-inclusive, adults-only Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos can participate in the resort’s new From Tide to Table fishing experience, which culminates in a beachside dinner featuring their catch.
According to Juan Vela, vice president of Velas Resorts, From Tide to Table was curated to transform Los Cabos’ legendary sportfishing into “a fully immersive luxury journey.”
“From the moment guests are awakened with a traditional Mexican breakfast to the time they savor sashimi prepared from their own fresh catch, every detail has been designed to honor the spirit of Mexican hospitality,” Vela said. “It’s not just a fishing trip; we wanted this to be a culinary adventure and a celebration of place.”

Also new to the region: the 110-room Kadun, set to open in downtown Los Cabos in October. The property will celebrate the culture of the Pericu, the region’s first inhabitants, and offer travelers an authentic yet sophisticated stay.
“Kadun adds a boutique, culturally rich option to the Mexico Grand Hotels portfolio, giving travelers a deeply connected experience in Los Cabos,” said Gabriel Ibarra Macias, director of sales and marketing for Mexico Grand Hotels.
"Advisors can look forward to offering their clients signature experiences, from dining at a specialty restaurant that draws from the richness of the land to enjoying sunsets at the rooftop bar.”
Experience the Mexican Caribbean
Expanded connectivity from several West Coast destinations has made the Mexican Caribbean more accessible than ever, with nonstop flights into Cancun International Airport from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix and Denver.
“The Mexican Caribbean continues to be a leading choice for West Coast travelers, thanks to direct air service from major market hubs and a variety of unrivaled experiences throughout our 12 iconic destinations,” said Andres Martinez, CEO of the Mexican Caribbean Tourism Board. “With our diverse accommodation options, renowned cuisine and pristine beaches, it’s truly a destination unlike any other.”
Martinez also notes that the new Tulum International Airport allows clients to fly into Cancun, travel south to explore the region and fly out of Tulum or Chetumal.
Expected to open later this year or early next are Mondrian Tulum Residences, Park Hyatt Cancun, Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar — set on the shores of Bacalar, known as the “Lake of Seven Colors” — and the 158-room St. Regis Costa Mujeres, offering views of Isla Mujeres to the east and Cancun to the southeast.
Discover Valle de Guadalupe
The only thing better than a short flight is no flight at all, says Janet Semenova, co-founder of Boutique Travel Advisors, who notes that Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California is just under two hours by car from San Diego.
“I recently discovered Valle de Guadalupe on a road trip from Laguna Beach, California, and it has quickly become one of Mexico’s most exciting new destinations for West Coast travelers,” she said.
While the region is known for quality wines produced “in the middle of a desert,” Semenova also credits Michelin-starred restaurants Animalon, Conchas de Piedra and Lunario with putting it on the culinary map.
Located on a mountainside vineyard in Valle de Guadalupe, Surya Hotel & Winery provides a unique experience in Mexico’s under-the-radar wine and culinary region.
“It is an easy getaway but feels like a total escape,” said Patsy Bock, vice president of sales and marketing for Pacifica Host Hotels, Surya’s ownership group. “Our intimate, 18-room resort puts you right in the center of the best wineries and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to slow down, savor incredible food and wine, and soak in the beauty of Mexico’s wine country — all just a short drive from home.”
Semenova believes the region will only grow in popularity as luxury hotels and restaurants continue to open — but until then, it’s a secret worth sharing with clients.
“Valle de Guadalupe is intimate, creative and warmly welcoming — making the discovery feel even more special,” she said.
