Review: Hotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole

Describing the natural beauty that surrounds Hotel Yellowstone at Jackson Hole  in Wyoming is, in truth, a bit of a challenge. The views feel almost too picture-perfect to be real, conjuring visions of Oregon-Trail-era America, with pristine landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see.

In that regard, a stay at the new hotel — which opened in August 2024 as the area’s only adults-only property — feels a bit like stepping back in time. The resort’s smart layout ensures that no matter where guests are, they are enveloped by the sprawling scenery, whether from their room’s patio, the pool, the restaurant or the lobby area.

Of course, as a brand-new luxury hotel, that’s about where any comparisons to the past end. Offering just 36 state-of-the-art suites, Hotel Yellowstone is a blissfully intimate, upscale and modern retreat. While the property spans a relatively small footprint, its low guest count meant no space was ever crowded during my recent visit. In fact, my husband and I often felt like we had the place all to ourselves.

Upon arrival, we were escorted into the lobby area, which eschews a traditional front desk in favor of a living-room-style public space outfitted with a range of comfy seating options, large windows, a cozy fireplace, baskets of freshly laundered blankets and an adjacent patio. During check-in — conducted at a round table encircled by plush chairs — it was explained to us that the shared spaces of the hotel are designed to encourage guest use throughout the day, and foster community with others.

To that end, there’s a rotation of complimentary goodies laid out here, tempting guests to stop by morning, noon and night. To start the day, there was coffee and tea, cold-pressed juices and house-made baked goods; afternoon brought treats such as cookies; and in the early evening, a happy-hour setup included two wine options and an expansive cheese and charcuterie spread. Environmentally friendly boxed water was always available — a hugely underrated offering in my book.

It’s all part of the intuitive — but never intrusive — hospitality approach that the hotel’s operating team is carefully honing.

All Suites, All the Time

Comfort and anticipatory amenities are also the focus within Hotel Yellowstone’s suites, which come in four varieties, all measuring 600 square feet but offering different views.

Walking into our suite, my husband and I were instantly awe-struck by the floor-to-ceiling view of the craggy Teton mountain range and lush valley below. Once we managed to pull our eyes from the scene, a staff member walked us through the many delightful features of our lavish space: the marble bathroom with a rain shower, a soaking tub, a towel warmer and deliciously heated floors; a fireplace that could be turned on with the push of a button; and wall panels for controlling the in-room lighting and blackout curtains.

We had the good grace to wait until our guide left before we giggled at our lucky break and ran around testing out the chairs on our private balcony and in our seating area, falling into the king-size bed and admiring the modern American-West design aesthetic (think: super-soft sheepskin rugs and upscale antler fixtures).

My husband played with the lighting controls on our in-room iPad while I dug into the complimentary refrigerator and snack drawers, bursting with still and sparkling water, energy drinks, flavored San Pellegrino, chips, popcorn, nuts, bars and even Erewhon-brand chocolate.

Must-Eats

On-site dining is offered by way of Olivia’s restaurant, a stunning A-frame space with an entire wall of windows — highlighting the same lovely Teton and valley views — and an eye-catching white marble bar. Here and all around the property, clever design touches (such as a large map of Yellowstone National Park and a panel of cowboy hats and lassos) root the space firmly in its Wyoming setting, without overtaking the luxe, contemporary vibe.

An especially nice amenity is that breakfast is included for all guests — and it’s no continental breakfast buffet, either. Made-to-order menu options included a power smoothie, a passion fruit parfait, an almond-and-cinnamon French toast roulade and a steak benedict on a house-made English muffin. But our favorite dishes were the egg sandwich — thick with fluffy eggs, crispy bacon and melty cheese — and “poached eggs in the nest,” in which the egg was tucked into a round of crispy hash browns and bathed in a Hollandaise-like sauce.

While we missed lunch service during our short stay, dinner at Olivia’s was equally impressive. The meal kicked off with a memorable bread basket full of crisp crackers and plump pull-apart rolls before we ordered our starters. We opted for creamy burrata with roasted peppers and olive tapenade alongside a salad of little gem lettuce, maple bacon, tomatoes, pickled red onion and blue cheese.

For our mains, we shared a dish of gnocchi with fennel, tomatoes, summer squash and basil alongside a standout bison ribeye with crispy potatoes, black truffle and asparagus. Other tempting options ranged from heirloom carrots with goat cheese to crispy pork belly, mushroom pappardelle and halibut with cream of corn.

Excellent Amenities and an Ideal Location

The indoor pool was yet another highlight of our visit. Though small, the space features floor-to-ceiling glass windows that take full advantage of the panoramic scenery. We had the fortune of visiting in summer, when the doors were pushed wide open to let in a refreshing breeze. I rested comfortably at the edge of the pool, watching the tall grasses in the expansive valley before me sway gently in the wind. And when my husband and I decided a huckleberry cocktail was the one thing missing from our swim, we simply picked up the courtesy phone; before we knew it, our beverages were hand-delivered by a helpful bartender.

Adjacent to the pool, guests will find a small, serene spa; a compact but well-equipped gym; and a glass-doored sauna (available for complimentary use) that ensures users never lose sight of the outdoors.

One final selling point? The property’s prime location, less than 20 minutes from Jackson’s main drag and near two incredible national parks. Hotel Yellowstone is just 30 minutes or so from the Moose Entrance point for Grand Teton National Park, where my husband and I opted to spend a day hiking at picturesque Jenny Lake. There’s plenty to do here if clients prefer to stay close by, though Yellowstone National Park is also accessible within a couple hours’ drive. Guests who want to explore with ease can book seasonal experiences through the hotel, including tours in both parks.

While I didn’t get to try those out myself, my time at Hotel Yellowstone taught me to trust its team to deliver at an exceptionally high level — and I’d put myself in their capable hands again in a heartbeat.
