In preparation for Viking’s first-ever Indian river route along the Brahmaputra river, the line has scheduled the launch of its newest riverboat, Viking Brahmaputra. The 80-guest vessel will be custom-built for the inland waterway, while still showcasing the Scandinavian design Viking loyalists are used to. It is scheduled to launch in late 2027.

Editor’s Note: This piece will be updated as more information is made available.

On its 15-day Wonders of India itinerary, the vessel will sail between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat, navigating either east or west in the northeastern state of Assam. The route combines an eight-day river cruise with guided shoreside extensions featuring overnight stays in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

“With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman and CEO of Viking. “In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries. We are now delighted to introduce a new way for curious travelers to explore the heart of this phenomenal country, in-depth and in Viking comfort.”

Clients will be able to travel roundtrip conveniently from Delhi, with hotel stays bookending the cruise. The fare will include a total of 13 guided tours, exploring 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Highlights include India’s Golden Triangle, Agra's Taj Mahal, Old Delhi and Jaipur's Palace of Winds. Along the Brahmaputra, sights will include Guwahati's temple, Kaziranga National Park and Majuli island.

Clients will have the option to tack on even more pre-and post-cruise extensions such as two additional nights in Delhi, three nights in Dubai, four in Kathmandu and five in Cochin and Mumbai.

The triple-deck Viking Brahmaputra will feature 40 outside staterooms with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas, accommodating a total of 80 guests. Additional amenities include a spa and fitness center and an open-air Sky Bar situated on the Upper Deck.
