When Norwegian Cruise Line’s next two ships launch, Norwegian Prima (debuting in summer 2022) and Norwegian Viva (setting sail in summer 2023) will showcase an enhanced Mandara Spa and Pulse Fitness Center, designed by architecture firm Rockwell Group. Features to look forward to include a double-decker indoor waterfall and the cruise industry’s first charcoal sauna.

"The debut of our Prima Class has been all about elevating guest experiences across all the touch points that make a perfect holiday at sea, from food and beverage, entertainment, recreational activities and now spa and fitness," said Harry Sommer, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line. "Our latest health and wellness experiences were designed to awaken the senses of our guests like never before, pairing world-class design and architecture with one-of-kind offerings that truly allow our guests to unwind and escape.”

Mandara Spa

One of the highlights of the newly improved Mandara Spa is its double-decker waterfall. The two-story cascading waterfall will descend into the Vitality Pool and Salt Floatation Pool, highlighting zero gravity-like saltwater buoyancy, all of which will be accessible by a marble spiral staircase.

Thermal experiences at the spa will include returning favorites, such as an ice room (to promote blood circulation following the use of the steam bath), or an infrared sauna, as well as showers with different water jets and lighting effects.

Our latest health and wellness experiences were designed to awaken the senses of our guests like never before, pairing world-class design and architecture with one-of-kind offerings that truly allow our guests to unwind and escape.

Inspired by Japanese and Korean wellness practices, the new charcoal sauna will join the list. Its outer charcoal layer employs a radiant heat system that sits between 86 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

“Guests can recline into relaxation as the sauna helps boost circulation and metabolism while also removing toxins from the body,” according to the line. “The sauna also effectively treats muscle stiffness and tension, including relief from backache, headache and arthritis, by promoting the deep release of connective tissue and muscles.”

Available Beds and Treatments

A host of new beds and treatments will be available at the spa. A Gharieni Welnamis bed will utilize acoustic and vibrational therapy, and a Gharieni Wellmassage5d bed will facilitate a whole-body massage in eight positions.

New treatments include an Ocean Spa Wave Massage on a therapeutic water-filled cushion; a “Musclease” Aroma Spa Ocean Wrap employing pine and rosemary essential oils; a “Cellutox” Aroma Spa Ocean Wrap to detox and reduce fluid retention; and a Zero Gravity Wellness Massage, which suspends the body on an advanced treatment table.

There will also be 22 hot stone loungers in a spa relaxation area overlooking the front of the ship and 28 dedicated spa balcony staterooms complete with premium spa access.

Pulse Fitness Center Improvements

Meanwhile, the Pulse Fitness Center, also positioned at the scenic front of the ship, will feature a new Performance Recovery room where guests will discover interactive Hyperice products as part of workshops, group classes and other services. Complimentary access to additional state-of-the-art fitness equipment will also be available.
Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva will be the first two of six new Prima Class sister ships from the brand.
