Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has revealed that award-winning pop musical artist Katy Perry will serve as godmother to the line’s upcoming Norwegian Prima — the first of six in a new class — when the ship sets sail in August 2022. Members of the media were invited to Las Vegas to meet the performer, learn about her partnership with the brand, watch her in concert and get a taste of what the vessel will offer in the way of fine dining.
Norwegian Prima Announces Katy Perry Is Godmother
“My most favorite way to vacation with my family is on the water,” Perry said. “Every morning that you wake up, you get to experience an incredible new view. I love that I get to christen her with my good vibrations, and I’m so excited for this new, beautiful, high-end, high-tech ship to take the seas, and provide once-in-a-lifetime vacations for so many families.”

She remarked how she believes cruising is the best way to see the world, and to that end, Prima is set to be officially named by Perry in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Aug. 27, 2022. There, she will break a ceremonial bottle of champagne over the ship’s bow to wish the vessel good luck in its sailing career and also perform onboard as part of the festivities.
"We are so excited to welcome Katy Perry, a one-of-a-kind artist and worldwide sensation, as godmother of Norwegian Prima,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of NCL. “We are so incredibly proud that she will be part of the Norwegian Cruise Line family and look forward to launching our beautiful, innovative ship with her in August.”
But before all of that, we had the chance to see Perry’s spectacular new residency, “Katy Perry: Play,” at the fresh Resorts World Theatre on what was formerly the Stardust property. In fact, Perry shared during the show that both her grandmother and aunt used to work at the previous hotel and how she feels their presence now whenever she takes to the stage.
Hearing unique theatrical renditions of her songbook, amplified to earth-shattering decibels live, elevated her tunes to a whole new level. From “Waking Up In Vegas” to “Firework,” suffice it to say we were all dancing in the aisles and getting into the playful “California Gurls” spirit.
To commemorate the collaboration between NCL and Perry and celebrate other entertainment to be showcased on Prima, the line has curated a special Spotify playlist.
Norwegian Prima’s inaugural season will head to Northern Europe from Southampton, England; Amsterdam; and Reykjavik, starting on Aug. 12; followed by Bermuda from New York City beginning on Oct. 6 and the Caribbean from Galveston, Texas, and Miami, starting Oct. 27.
