Inside Travel Group, parent company of InsideJapan Tours and InsideAsia Tours, has released its 2023 Impact Report, marking its first year as a B Corp Certified company. The report details the group's sustainability efforts and future goals in the travel industry.

In 2023, Inside Travel Group transported nearly 11,000 people to 10 Asian destinations, generating a record revenue of over $66 million. The company's sustainability initiatives included offsetting 50,695 tons of CO2 through its Every Trip Offset policy and committing over $167,600 to charity partners.

"We have implemented several initiatives across the business that demonstrate our commitment to propelling environmental and social responsibility, and we're encouraging other operators to do the same," said Sophie Walker, global head of sustainability at Inside Travel Group.

The company's efforts include supporting nature-positive projects in multiple destinations, such as reforestation in Malaysian Borneo and protecting the Japanese Giant Salamander. Walker notes that the group offsets 100% of its carbon footprint through projects such as wind turbines in India and rainforest conservation in Borneo. Additionally, Inside Travel Group staff volunteered 380 hours to various conservation efforts, food banks and local projects. And through its Giving Back commitment, it donates 5% of annual operating profits, as well.

"Becoming a B Corp has had a positive impact across our entire business,” said Alastair Donnelly, co-founder of Inside Travel Group. “Not only does it thread through everything we do in destination and at home, but it has also been extremely positive for recruitment and workplace culture."

Looking ahead, Inside Travel Group plans to expand its sustainability team from two to three members in 2025. The tour operator and DMC has outlined Impact Milestones through 2030, including publishing an overtourism strategy in 2025 and aiming to recertify as a B Corp with an improved score.

"We want to ensure that travel is a force for good in the world,” Donnelly said. “That means taking everything that's so great about travel — cultural experiences, new perspectives, creating shared memories — and blending it with genuine environmental and social impact. We're not there yet, but we believe we're on the right path."
