Small-group travel operator G Adventures and its nonprofit partner, Planeterra, recently hosted its first GX event, billed as a “World Community Tourism Summit.”

More than 350 global travel industry members — including travel advisors, suppliers, media and travelers — gathered in Cusco, Peru, for the summit, designed to provide a firsthand look at the benefits of a community-first approach to tourism. To this end, attendees visited local Planeterra-supported tourism enterprises, including a women’s weaving co-op, an Indigenous community organization and more.

During GX, Jamie Sweeting, president of Planeterra, also announced the launch of Project 300, a new initiative to uplift 300 communities through travel by 2030. Project 300 follows previous campaigns such as 2019’s Project 100, which increased the number of community tourism enterprises integrated into G Adventures experiences to 100.
