Ship Preview: Disney Cruise Line's Disney Adventure

In 2025, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) will base a ship in Asia for the first time when the new Disney Adventure launches. Sailing from Singapore, the 208,000-gross-ton vessel will carry approximately 6,700 guests and 2,500 crew, making it DCL’s largest in the fleet. (The ship was originally under construction as the Global Dream for Dream Cruises before being purchased by Disney to be reimagined and completed as Disney Adventure.) 

“We’re bringing the magic of Disney Cruise Line to Asia for the first time ever, and we want to give our guests the cruise relaxation and Disney fun they can only experience onboard one of our ships,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for Disney Cruise Line. “When they set sail on the Disney Adventure, guests will find incredible, immersive areas that bring the worlds of Disney, Pixar and Marvel to life in ways like never before — and these uniquely Disney experiences will inspire families to reconnect, recharge and make unforgettable memories that they’ll cherish forever.” 

Deployment

For at least five years, Adventure will sail on three- and four-night voyages from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre as part of a collaboration between DCL and the Singapore Tourism Board. 

Accommodations

Despite being bought as a partially built ship, Adventure will be retrofitted to still feature Disney’s signature split-bathroom staterooms, permitting two people to get ready at the same time.

Of course, it will also showcase luxurious concierge-level accommodations, complete with exclusive access not only to a private indoor lounge but also a sundeck, a pool, whirlpools, shops, a spa and fitness facilities.

The Concierge Lounge, for instance, will take cues from “Aladdin” — as will private accommodations in addition to “The Little Mermaid” and “The Avengers” — while serving complimentary refreshments and gourmet treats.

Concierge Family Staterooms, specifically, will comprise a main living area, a separate bedroom, an ensuite bathroom, a private entrance and an expanded verandah. And open-concept Concierge Suites will come outfitted with one-bedroom configurations for at least five guests. Concierge Royal Suites — either the “Frozen”-themed Elsa Royal Suite or Anna Royal Suite — will have a living room, dining area with bar, main bedroom, children’s room with bunk beds, a pair of ensuite bathrooms and an extended verandah with its own whirlpool.

Themed Areas

Adventure’s public areas will consist of seven themed areas divided by four aspects of magic: imagination, discovery, fantasy and adventure.

Imagination will be anchored by the Disney Imagination Garden — equal parts enchanted valley, charming garden and open-air performance venue, according to the line. The gathering space will take its cues from the adventures of characters from the seagoing Moana to jungle resident Mowgli.

The garden will also feature a triple-decker storybook castle art piece; it will overlook an al fresco theatrical stage, a pair of quick-service restaurants, a bar and several of the line’s first garden-view cabins with balconies.

The Imagination Garden will take additional design cues from traditional pop-up storybooks, with hidden Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters throughout. A topiary of Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Mouse will punctuate the space.

A trio of zones will represent discovery, beginning with Disney Discovery Reef, where families will come together to shop and dine among the oceanic narratives of “The Little Mermaid,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Finding Nemo” and “Luca."

San Fransokyo Street will also bring to life “Big Hero 6” with additional interactive games and activities, stores, cinemas and other entertainment along a street market setting.

And Wayfinder Bay, which the line describes as “the line where the sky meets the sea,” will offer a Pacific Islands-inspired, open-air, poolside retreat reminiscent of “Moana."

Fantasy will be realized at Town Square, as a nod to the international Disney theme parks, as a celebration of Disney royals in a fantastical forest of more shops, lounges, cafes, restaurants and entertainment befitting “Tangled,” “Cinderella,” “Frozen,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “The Princess and the Frog,” and more.

Meanwhile, adventure can be found in two ship sections: Marvel Landing and Toy Story Place. The former will be an all-ages destination for Avengers fans to assemble and enjoy super-heroic attractions and experiences. And the latter will be a multipurpose zone with dining venues and water play areas, such as an expansive family pool, several whirlpools, waterslides and interactive splash pads, themed to the “Toy Story” franchise.

Featured Attractions

Marvel Landing on the upper decks will be crowned with a trio of attractions including the line’s first-ever high-speed roller coaster at sea in the form of Ironcycle Test Run. The 820-foot-long thrill ride will let participants “test-drive” Tony Stark’s Ironcycle prototype while suspended up to 30 feet above the upper decks. Additionally, Pym Quantum Racers will feature Pym Tech-modified mini-cars on what is described as “an oversized toy set track,” and Groot Galaxy Spin will have guests ride on a Nova Corp Bass Jumper to an “awesome mix” track of tunes.

On San Fransokyo Street, passengers will discover a Big Hero Arcade family gaming lounge and a Hiro Training Zone for training in a group (up to four at a time). Guests will have a full-body experience of running, dodging and blocking on an exciting gaming floor.

Age-Specific Areas

There will also be areas dedicated exclusively to kids, tweens and teens, as well as just adults on Adventure. Those 18 years and older will appreciate their very own specialty dining, lounge and spa and salon experiences (like the line’s signature Rainforest thermal suite, plus an array of body treatments). A fully-equipped fitness center will also be available.

Leading the adult-only spaces, besides an exclusive restaurant mentioned below, will be several bars and lounges. Buccaneer Bar will be the place for beer and live sporting events. Tiana’s Bayou Lounge will bring New Orleans drinks and beignets onboard. Spellbound will be a moody “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” venue for more cocktails and mocktails. Market Bar will serve as an al fresco cafe. And Taverna Portorosso will be a “Luca”-esque sports bar overlooking a breezeway below.

Just for kids, meanwhile, will be The Hub central to Disney’s Oceaneer Club as a portal to other areas and home to a main stage for interactive narratives, character meet-and-greets and dance parties. Branching out from there will be Fairytale Hall, which is dedicated to Disney princesses, games and other arts and crafts, along with Andy’s Toy Box  (an oversize playground). Marvel WEB Workshop will test the skills of budding Avengers with simulations. And Disney cruise favorites, Walt Disney Imagineering Lab and Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck, will also be along for the ride.

Additionally, It’s a Small World Nursery will offer paid babysitting services, while Edge will cater to tweens and Vibe to teens. The latter two will be uniquely accessible from “storefronts” off of San Fransokyo Street.

Dining

Restaurants will provide the “chance to feast on favorite Disney stories through immersive theming and distinctly Disney entertainment,” according to the brand, and its rotational dining is alluded to with mention of the same service staff attending to passengers throughout the cruise.

Quick-service restaurants Mowgli’s Eatery and Gramma Tala’s Kitchen will be in the Imagination Garden. The former will offer Indian cuisine in a setting inspired by “The Jungle Book;” guests can expect to see early concept art from the animated film here, plus Indian dishes with a Disney twist. Gramma Tala’s Kitchen will bring “Moana” to life, drawing inspiration from the Pacific Islands and serving Pacific and Asian dishes.

Guests will be able to partake in a rotation of three main dining venues in the evening according to a preset schedule while following their consistent wait staff.

First up will be one of two dinner show restaurants: Navigator’s Club and its “captain’s table”-inspired dinners, or Hollywood Spotlight Club evoking the “glitz and glamour of the golden age.”

Second will be one of two magical venues where the black-and-white look will transform to full color. Patrons will see their own drawings animated next to a cast of characters: Animator’s Palate with “The Little Mermaid,” “Encanto” and “Toy Story” decor, or Animator’s Table with an “Aladdin,” “Frozen” and “Finding Nemo” aesthetic.

Lastly, the following will offer buffets by day and full-service dinners by night: the “Tangled” and “Frozen”-themed Enchanted Summer Restaurant, outfitted with a Maximus dining room and Olaf dining room, and Pixar Market Restaurant nestled in Toy Story Place, celebrating “Inside Out,” “Monsters University,” “Turning Red,” “The Incredibles” and other franchises.

Plus, specialty dining will be available at the adults-only Palo Trattoria for Italian fare and Mike & Sulley’s — Flavors of Asia divided into four styles: a Japanese steakhouse, a teppanyaki room, an Omakase-style dining bar and outdoor sushi and sashimi.

Rounding out the cuisine onboard will be multiple quick-service restaurants, from the aforementioned Mowgli’s Eatery and Gramma Tala’s Kitchen to a Palo Cafe for “Luca”-themed Italian, “The Little Mermaid”-styled Bewitching Boba and Brews, Stitch’s ‘Ohana Grill inspired by “Lilo and Stitch,” and Cosmic Kebabs and its “Ms. Marvel” environment.

Entertainment

Entertainment will be a hallmark of Adventure, thanks to the line’s characteristic stage shows, meet-and-greets, first-run film screenings, game shows, karaoke and more.

The state-of-the-art stage at the Disney Imagination Garden, for instance, will utilize LED screens three levels high and special effects to present impressive shows and more. For instance, the “Avengers Assemble!” show will gather Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Black Panther, The Scarlet Witch, Ms. Marvel, Loki, Red Skull, Taskmaster and even Deadpool (for his first time at sea) in a stunt-driven performance on the Garden Stage. Also located there will be the new “Captain Jack Sparrow & The Siren Queen" show featuring the swashbuckler and a giant squid.

Extra deck entertainment will extend to the “Let’s Set Sail” party, “Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party” and “Big Hero 6”-themed “Baymax Super Exercise Expo."

And naturally, the line’s famed Walt Disney Theater will come to life with a pair of Broadway-caliber shows. “Remember” will be an Adventure exclusive as an all-new performance that will follow the robot couple from “Wall-E” and other heartfelt Disney characters. And fleet-favorite “Disney Seas the Adventure” will also be a journey full of other classic Disney music and characters.

Characters and Retail

For the first time on a Disney cruise, Duffy and Friends will have a presence onboard. Not only will there be a special “Duffy and The Friend Ship" show staged in the Disney Imagination Garden where the characters will perform original tunes, but the Duffy and Friends Shop will also sell related merchandise and experiences. Photo ops with the popular characters will be available as well as a Duffy and Friends Discovery Quest scavenger hunt.

Shops will extend further to the Marvel Style Studio and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where young guests can be made up in the style of Marvel characters or princes and princesses respectively. Last but not least, the Royal Society for Friendship and Tea experience will offer a special afternoon tea party available in the Hollywood Spotlight Club.
